Passport Rule for Air-Travelers Finalized.

DOS and CBP have implemented the first phase of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. Beginning January 23, 2007, all United States citizens and nonimmigrant aliens from Canada, Bermuda, and Mexico departing from or entering the United States from within the Western Hemisphere at air ports-of-entry will be required to present a valid passport.

United States citizens and nonimmigrant aliens from Canada, Bermuda, and Mexico departing from or entering the United States at land or sea ports-of-entry are not affected under this finalized rule. DOS and CBP will address land and sea ports-of-entry passport requirements in a separate rule in the near future.

Read Final Rule, 71 F.R. 68412 (Nov. 24, 2006).
